Timber Specification & Maintenance

Specification
Iroko is a hardwood from West Africa. It is a very dense and durable timber which is kiln dried to reduce the moisture content to below 10.8%. This ensures a stable reaction when used in an outdoor environment.

Timber Protection
All Hardwood provided by Eagle is of the highest quality and stained and protected with Teknos products. Teknos is a water based stain and timber protective product.

At the Eagle factory the stain is sprayed on - firstly a coat of Aquaprimer 2900 then two coats of Aquatop 2600. This timber treatment system will give a sound protection for a long period of time. The more extreme the environment usually dictates when a re-touching is required. If a breakdown of the surface coating does occur please follow the following procedure.

On Site Maintenance Procedure
Aquaprimer and Aquatop products are available from Eagle in 1, 3 & 20 litre cans. The initial coating from the factory will last over two years – and the only maintenance required is to keep the sign clean. At least once per year all coatings should be washed with mild detergent and water to remove any surface pollution.

After two summers it would be advisable to inspect the surface of the timber for wear and tear. A coating of Aquatop 2600 at this stage is advised and if a coating is applied annually the frames will continue performing through time.

Using a good quality synthetic brush, designed for use with acrylic paints, apply a coat of Aquatop 2600 in the appropriate shade/colour. Allow to dry for four hours, then apply a second coat. (Drying times may vary due to environmental conditions).
